SXA- Info: counselling and information for sexworkers
This project came to life in April 2009. Right from the beginning we offered services on four main levels:
• streetwork
• the drop-in center and Internetcafé
• networking with related institutions
• lobbying and declaration of political interests
Our goal is giving support for the women in their decisions to live their lives. Therefore we work with care and respect and out of our feminist motiviation.
Streetwork: We do Streetwork in the province of Styria/Austria. We always go on our “tour” in teams of two and offer counselling directly at the workplace of the sexworkers. We carry a lot of information with us and provide special topics and folders for each visit. This information we try to offer in as many languages as possible. The topics of our talks cover the social insurance system in Austria as well as taxes, STDs, health and personal issues etc.
The drop-in center: Our office and “home-base” is the Internetcafé in Graz. This is our workstation but also drop-in center for women and sexworkers. Here they can find counselling or enjoy a coffee in calm atmosphere.
Networking is the third part in which we are investing a lot of time and attention. Through cooperation and interaction we gain a broader support for the women. This aspect of our work is very much related to our fourth one: lobbying. We also want to achieve political aims. Therefore all institutions, organisations and political players have to pull together. We want sexworkers to have their rights.
